Empowering The Wetaskiwin Community Through Sustainable Agriculture

Based in Wetaskiwin, Rock Soup Food Bank feeds approximately 7,200 people per month. Since its inception in December 2020, this grassroots, non-profit organization has benefited 5000 people and provided over 100 tons of food. Rock Soup services are provided independently from the government, making them accessible to anyone in need, without any information or income-related prerequisites. This organization believes in offering dignified support to all individuals, ensuring that assistance is available without discrimination or barriers.

Vision

A retrofitting of the Rock Soup greenhouse to increase efficiency and output and to be utilized year-round. Indoor

crop growth mitigates crop risks providing a source of nutrient-rich, high-quality food for clients and partner organizations. NuLeaf provides 2880 growing slots, LED and automated fertigation system, nursery and seedling system, installation and commissioning, training, ongoing support, and one year of consumables.

Immediate Impact

NuLeaf’s efforts with Rock Soup bring immediate benefits, producing 720 plants per week and saving an estimated $70,000 annually. Additionally, this greenhouse will conserve 216,000 litres of water, 34,560 square feet of farmland, 30,000 food miles, and reduce 19,440 lbs of food waste, demonstrating a commitment to both the community and sustainability while providing a consistent supply of fresh, nutritious produce.
